Description
Allan Adler was not trained as a silversmith, but he apprenticed with Porter Blanchard after marrying his daughter in 1938 and eventually took over Blanchard's shop in the Sunset Plaza area of the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles. Despite a fire in 1959 that was devastating to his business, he resumed making silver and his success continued until his death in 2002.With a few successful designs for movie stars, his career took off and never stopped. The tray for sale here is typical of his clean direct style with a pattern of lightly hammered work across the surface, creating a wavy finish that almost looks like water in certain lights. Just lovely.
There are no major scratches or injuries, one tiny dark spot in one rounded corner of the bowl, and a tiny water-like spot along the flat edge of the bowl. Both are difficult to find.
The tray measures 17.25 inches by 12 inches by 1 inch and
weighs 23 ounces on my postal scale, or an incredible 713 grams
! Marked on the back as shown.
Simple but stunning.
